Why is Sleep so Important to Young Teenagers - 601 Words

Focus Question: Why is sleep important for young teenagers? Sleep is a fundamental need for everyone who needs sleep. Sleep is as important as eating food and drinking fluids. But teens are the ones seen not getting enough sleep. It is proven that teenagers get the minimum hours of sleep than any other age group. Teenagers are seen getting 5 hours of sleep a night. Lack of sleep can affect many thing in a negative way such as abilities to learn,listen, pay attention,drive,mental health, and physical health. It is very important for teenagers to get about 9 hours of sleep a night. About only 15% of teenagers get about 8 hours of sleep. Most teenagers only get about 5 hours of sleep on a regular bases. 51% of teenagers go to bed at 10 p.m. or later on school nights. On weekends, 91% of teenagers go to bed at 10 p.m. or even later. But it is seen that it is natural for teenagers to not go to bed before 11pm. Some teenagers have sleeping disorders that can be treated. But it is important for them to get 9 hours of sleep. Studies even show that teenagers need an extra hour of sleep. If they had an extra hour of sleep they would work better in: School. Everyday activities.
