With more parents working today, one perception is that children are being forced to grow up too quickly, which could be why crime among the youth is growing each day. In the past it was thought that, â€Å"If parents raise their children properly, they will be law abiding citizens. In contrast, if a child does not behave appropriately, it must be the parents’ fault† (Nakaya 49), however this may not be the case. While there is not one single cause for juvenile delinquency, Graham believes that bad parenting falls somewhere on the list (1719). So the question arises, is it the child’s fault for the crime he or she committed or should the blame lay upon the parent, who if was present in the child’s life and instilling proper discipline,†¦show more content†¦Parents should be educated on what to look for as a strange or out of character behavior, and if they witness that behavior then certain steps should be taken. If a child is not offered the type of help he or she needs by the person responsible for them, it would be difficult to charge the child with a crime that could have been prevented if that help was offered by their responsible party. There are several cases which could have been prevented if proper steps were taken to diagnose and treat the child who committed the crime when the signs of mental distress presented themselves. Along with mental illnesses, there have also been several cases where bullying was the cause for a child to act out in a violent way, or the bullying itself was taken to extreme levels. Bullying is becoming a widely spread epidemic, with students handling it in very different ways. Children have done everything from commit suicide as an escape from bullying to killing entire classrooms of people to get back at the bullies. According to the National Institute of Health, â€Å"both childhood bullies and their victims are more likely to engage in more serious violent behavior, like freque nt fighting and carrying weapons† (Longley).
